Beatlie School Campus in West Lothian was last night given the much-coveted Small Public Development of the Year title at the 2024 Scottish Property Awards. As more than 600 guests gathered from across Scotland at the property industry’s largest annual celebration of commercial and public property, Beatlie was top of the class in the category.
The new £15.7m Beatlie School Campus is a sector leading ASN provision for young people aged 3-18 with severe and complex needs, with dedicated accommodation for partner agencies, including a NHS Child Development Centre.
A special place requiring a bespoke solution, the new building, which opened in August 2023, offers a range of first-rate facilities meeting the needs of every child, including rebound therapy and life skills, sensory spaces and links with nature, with each area having outdoor access. Utilising assistive technology, its inclusive design facilitates greater independence. The state-of-the-art building was designed to be intuitive, joyful and stimulating and crucially, Beatlie’s young people are thriving in their new learning space.
This award-winning project was delivered for West Lothian Council by its development partner Hub South East and main contractor Morrison Construction. It was designed by NORR Architects.
Eileen Mackin, Hub South East’s Projects Director who last year won an Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Award for her work on the Beatlie project said:
“Winning Small Public Development of the Year is fantastic industry recognition of the true partnership working, collaborative design, quality construction and ultimately the positive impact the new Beatlie Campus is having on its young people.
“This was a particularly special project to work on and I’m delighted to see how it’s already being enjoyed and hearing the positive feedback from staff about how it’s providing additional opportunities for its young people. An Award for the collective effort of all those involved is just the icing on the cake!
“We’re proud to have continued our successful partnership with West Lothian Council, assisting in the delivery of high-quality inspiring learning estate and we look forward with excitement to future projects.”
West Lothian Council’s Depute Chief Executive Dr. Elaine Cook said:
